1995.
January 24, 1995. Session Minutes. Moderator Brad Van Sant welcomed guests Ellen Peckham and Vernon Finney, and then opened the Session with prayer.
Evelyn Pike resigned as Presbytery Representative because she moved to Sacramento and cannot adequately represent CCC.
A wedding was performed on December 31, 1994 by Pastor Van Sant in our sanctuary for James Little and Kori McFarland. A wedding is being planned for Barney Dutton and Jody Gallardo for February 18, 1995.
PNC: Suzanne Riley reported the Pastor Nominating Committee is studying and responding to a new PIF that has been received.
Building & Grounds: Arlie Hurt reported flooding in the church basement after torrential rain in early January. A new sump pump was purchased and he and Vern Finney have cleaned the gutters.
The new paint on the church doors looks great and the sign is attractive and readable again.
The chimes are in need of repair. The repairman will evaluate and give an estimate.
The Welcome to Countryside signs on the south and west ends of town are in need of paint. Valoree Bahlman will give an estimate for repair.
The Congregational Meeting was scheduled for February 5, 1995. Rev. Van Sant will ask Rev. Laurence Huggett to moderate.
Pastor Supply: Session and Rev. Laurence Huggett are interested in pursuing a temporary long-term arrangement. Rev. Huggett would preach every Sunday and be available one extra day per week as needed for pastoral care. Rev. Van Sant will investigate with the COM on our behalf.
Laurie Hayes will ask Clarence Schaupp and Mary Anne Schaupp to do the 1994 Audit of Countryside’s financial records before the next Session meeting.

February 28, 1995. Session Minutes. The wedding for Barney Dutton and Jody Gallardo was held on February 18th with Rev. Robert Neal of Woodland officiating.
Building & Grounds: Arlie reported a work party cut down the elm tree invading the roof of the east side of the manse. They installed a new bathroom sink donated by Yolo Plumbing. Some recommended upcoming jobs: roof awning over back of the C.E. building to be repaired; paint outside of C.E. building; new screens for the manse; repair steps on the deck at the manse.
Memorial: Repairs to the chimes will be $900 with a one year warranty. A $500 Christmas gift was given to use for the chimes. Ellen Peckham moved to recommend that the Memorial Committee pay the balance of the bill. The Memorial Committee is also interested in arranging floodlights for the 3 stained glass windows on the south side of the church. Ellen will bring an estimate to the March meeting.
Pre-School: The pre-school has a full enrollment and a waiting list. Plans are under way for the school to start serving lunches the first part of March. Too many children are arriving at the school missing meals.

May 3, 1995. Session Minutes. Moderator Brad Van Sant opened with prayer and welcomed guests seeking membership, George W. Halterman and Sheila Ann Braden. While reviewing the readiness of the 2 guests, additional guests arrived. Deborah K. Oakham, James Joseph Oakham and infant daughters, Janelle Marie Oakham and Jennifer Lauren Oakham. Rev. Huggett had tutored George, Sheila and Deborah for membership. James was also seeking membership plus baptism for the infant daughters. After some counseling of our beliefs, James decided not to join Countryside at the time. Ellen moved to accept into membership Sheila Ann Braden on her Confession of Faith and to be baptized, George W. Halterman on Reaffirmation of his Faith, and Deborah K. Oakham on Reaffirmation of her Faith. Presentation to the congregation and the baptisms will be May 14, 1995 during the regular worship service.
Clerk’s Report. Thank you letters were sent to Mark Riley and Clarence Schaupp for the annual audit on Countryside’s financial books and ledgers.
The following memberships were deleted as nonresident members inactive: Anne Rominger, Elizabeth Lehmkuhl, Gregory Linton, Shelley Vannucci and Marilyn Navarro. Karen Gist’s membership was moved to an inactive role.
Finance. Laurie Hayes reported that they have been looking at some software programs to move the church finances onto the computer. It was decided to purchase a new computer desk for the church secretary. Heffernon Peterson, insurance carrier, is looking into areas of extended coverage (flood, earthquake).
Pastor Nominating Committee. Betty Koeppen moved to extend an invitation to Rev. Katherine McIntosh-Smith to preach for C.C.C. on June 4, 1995. Motion second and carried. Suzanne Riley moved to call a congregational meeting on June 4, 1995 for the purpose of calling Rev. Katherine McIntosh-Smith as Designated Pastor. Motion second and carried. It was decided to have an ice cream social on Saturday, June 3rd as an informal time together to get acquainted with Rev. McIntosh-Smith. Laurie Hayes moved to accept the following terms of call:
Salary $20,664; Manse rental value $5,166; Pension $7,232; Travel expense $1,275; Continuing education $300. Four weeks vacation, two weeks continuing education leave time, a ¾ work week. The manse is for her own private use, it cannot be sublet. Motion second and carried. Ellen Peckham moved to call her for three years as Designated Pastor. After the third year, the congregation can vote to call her as our permanent pastor. Motion was second and carried. Ellen Peckham moved that July 1, 1995 be Rev. McIntosh-Smith’s first contract day at Countryside. Motion second and carried. Rev. Van Sant encouraged all PNC members and other congregational members to go to Presbytery on June 27th to show complete support of Rev. McIntosh-Smith for her final acceptance by the COM and Presbytery to be installed as Pastor of C.C.C.
Worship Committee. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Services were powerfully good and well attended. Our sincere thanks to Rev. and Mrs. Huggett for their hard work and devotion on our behalf.
New Business. It was decided to paint the church office during the work day, May 20th, to prepare for the new pastor.
Pentecost Sunday picnic will be June 4, 1995.

June 4, 1995. Congregational Meeting Minutes. Moderator: Pastor Laurence Huggett. Clerk: Elizabeth Koeppen. A quorum was noted with 31 voting members present. Pastor Huggett opened the meeting with prayer. The purpose of the meeting was to call Rev. Katherine McIntosh-Smith as Designated Pastor for a three year term. At the end of three years, if the union is considered a match by the congregation of Countryside Community Church, Rev. McIntosh-Smith, and the Presbytery of Sacramento, another congregation meeting will be called for the purpose of calling Rev. McIntosh-Smith as our permanent pastor. Elder Suzanne Riley moved to accept Rev. McIntosh-Smith for the explained conditions. Motion was second by Elizabeth Koeppen and Sheila Braden. After a question and answer discussion period, an election by secret ballot resulted in unanimous approval.

June 5, 1995. Session Minutes. Ellen Peckham moved to accept minutes as corrected from May 3, 1995 and from the Congregational Meeting from June 4, 1995. Motions second and approved.
Clerk’s Report. A letter from Rev. Huggett sought approval for Baptism for the grandchildren of Gerry and Virginia Seipel (also children’s foster parents) on June 25, 1995. Children are Royce Troy Johannes and Tawnya Michele Runninghawk. Rev. Huggett will meet with grandparents and biological mother instructing them on our beliefs about the Sacrament.
Rev. McIntosh-Smith will be setting her installation date soon.
Pastor Nominating Committee. Suzanne Riley is heartily recommending a strong show of support by all PNC and Session members as well as congregation members at the Presbytery meeting June 27th. The COM will be approving Rev. McIntosh-Smith’s terms of call to Countryside. Car pooling will be arranged.
Worship Committee. The Committee is proposing a fee change for renting the Sanctuary. The old fee is $100, an additional $50 non-refundable custodial fee is proposed. Suzanne moved to add a $50 non-refundable cleaning fee to the sanctuary for weddings, for members and non-members alike. Motion second and carried. June 18th worship will have special music, Dolores Stephens on piano and Rev. Huggett’s son and granddaughter on trumpet and flute.
Pre-School Contract. Terms - $6500.00 for 186 days for the period of August 13, 1995 through June 2, 1996. Tenant will pay annual rent in full by September 30, 1995. Suzanne moved to accept the contract in full as written. Motion second and carried.
Pre-School Room Paint and Carpet. Betty reported the need to paint the pre-school room and to look for a more practical floor covering than what is being used. Paint has been donated by the pre-school director. Ellen moved to have volunteers paint the pre-school room and to have Betty collect bids for new flooring for the pre-school rooms. She will bring bids for the next meeting. Motion carried.
Huggett Farewell. General consensus was to have a farewell potluck for Rev. Larry and Dorothy Huggett on last Sunday in June following regular worship.
Room Rental to Non-Denominational Bible Study Group. Rev. Van Sant recommended referring this subject to the new pastor. The session felt all groups, denominational and non-denominational, were welcome to come to the existing bible study meeting here on Sunday mornings.
Organist Appreciation. Vern Finney moved we recognize our organist, Dolore Stephens, on her birthday, June 10th. A plant will be presented to her in recognition of her devoted services to our church and birthday cake for her birthday. Everyone heartily approved!
