1994.

May 10, 1994.  Session Minutes. Clerk’s Report.  A letter was received from Ruby V. Storz requesting her membership be reactivated. Arlie Hurt moved to accept her request. Motion second and carried. Communion was served twice on May 1st. Once during worship service and once at the home of Madeline Potter, by Pastor Letts and Suzanne Riley.

Moderator’s Report.  Pastor Letts officiated at the wedding of Debbie Perry and Jim Oakham on May 7th at our church.  Synod has contracted with Atlanta Mutual Insurance Co. to inspect our facility for fire and liability safety. Paul and Arlie will accompany Tammy and the insurance representative on the tour, also Don Warren.

Buildings and Grounds.  Tammy presented a proposal, but the person was not bonded or insured, so the proposal was rejected. Arlie’s estimate to repair the manse porch is $62.70 for materials if the church supplies the labor. Once the house is vacant, Arlie will remove the front porch and re-evaluate the situation for repairs.

Pastor Nominating Committee.  The following members of Session agreed to be part of the PNC: Paul Stephens, Betty Koeppen and Suzanne Riley. There were no other volunteers. Pastor Letts will take nominations from the floor during the congregational meeting on May 15th, for the purposes of electing a PNC.

Worship Committee. Easter service was well attended (115).  A form bulletin is ready to use for guest Preachers. Guest Pastor Dexter McNamara and special music by the Woodland Presbyterian choir on April 24th. Tammy and Suzanne took communion to shut-ins on May 1st after regular services. Tammy’s father, Rev. Dr. Robert Mitchell was our guest preacher on Mother’s Day, May 8th.  May 22, 1994 will be Pentecost, a BBQ and Tammy’s last Sunday with CCC.

Christian Ed. Laurie Hayes and Jeanine Gillham will be co-directors of VBS. They have 2 high school volunteers. A pool party is being planned for all high schoolers interested in assisting. The youth group went on a trip to Great America during Easter vacation, chaperoned by Cindy Brock and Tom Letts. Teacher appreciation will be May 22 during worship. Bonnie Passantino accepted a position on the committee.

May 14, 1994. Congregational Meeting Minutes. A quorum was noted by the Clerk with 24 members present. Pastor Letts open the meeting with prayer. The purpose of the meeting was to elect a Pastor Nominating Committee. The nominees were: Suzanne Riley, Elizabeth Koeppen and Paul Stephens, Jr.  Ellen Peckham moved to accept the nominees. Motion second and carried. Pastor Letts entertained nominations from the floor: Bill Rominger and Barbara Finney.   Ellen Peckham moved to close the nominations and to elect the two nominees. Motion was second and approved. Jeanne Han moved to close with prayer.

June 28, 1994. Session Minutes.  Moderator Rev. Bradley Van Sant opened Session with prayer.  Two funerals were held in the church, member Mary Reiff Foster on May 11, and James McGinnis, son and brother of former members, on June 16. Two prospective members, Brenda Miller Howard and Susan K. Temple will meet with Session on July 26th.

Buildings and Grounds. Paul Stephens moved to buy a  new lo-boy toilet for the pre-school bathroom. Motion second and approved.  Upon inspection, it was found that the front porch of the manse was rotten and needed to be replaced. New plans are underway.  Betty moved to have Laurie price her redwood deck/porch plans for the manse and bring them next meeting.

July 28, 1994.  Session Minutes.   A brief meeting was held with two new members: Susan K. Temple, transferring from Davis Community Church, and Brenda Miller Howard, reaffirmation of faith, with the Session. They will be presented to the congregation during regular worship on August 7th.

Clerk’s Report. Russell and Linda Mitchell have transferred their membership to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek.  A thank you was sent to Lynn Hayes for helping on the door and with offering in June.  Narcotics Anonymous is renting the basement on Wednesday evenings. 

Pastor Nominating Committee.  Bill Rominger resigned as committee chairman and member due to his move to Phoenix. After much discussion, the committee recommends they continue as it stands. Session agreed.

Old Business.  Porch.  Laurie reported an estimate from Central Valley Lumber, $465 with heart redwood and pier blocks for foundation. $450 with heart redwood but without pier blocks for the foundation. Yolo County permit fee is $47. Betty moved that Laurie start the process to apply for a permit. Motion carried.

New Business.  C.E. Roof. Paul requested we have someone check the cracks in the C.E. building roof before winter. Betty will ask Don Koeppen.

August 23, 1994.  Session Minutes.  Moderator Rev. Bradley Van Sant opened Session reading Romans 12:1-2.  Elders present were: Paul Stephens, Suzanne Riley, Arlie Hurt, Betty Koeppen and Evelyn Pike.

Clerk’s Report. Thank you letters were sent to Eileen Raymond for her many years of service acting as Memorial Committee secretary and to Audrey Lamborn for a donation of a toilet for the pre-school bathroom.

Pastor Nominating Committee. It was agreed to accept the Finance Committee’s recommendation of a ¾ time pastor. The church Information Form is almost completed. Will ask the Clerk to call a special session meeting when the report is ready.

Christian Ed.  Sunday School starts September 11th. David C. Cook Sunday School material has been ordered. Sunday School teachers are still needed.

Old Business. Porch. Laurie Hayes reported a letter from the Esparto Fire Chief is all that is needed to finish the preparations to submit to the county Planning Department for approval.

New Business. Locks.  It was reported new locks are needed on the outside office doors. Suzanne moved to have Arlie evaluate and either replace the locks or have them re-keyed.

Motion second and carried.

September 11, 1994. Special Session Meeting.  Moderator Rev. Bradley Van Sant.

Elders present: Arlie Hurt, Evelyn Pike, Laurie Hayes and Elizabeth Koeppen.

Rev. Van Sant opened with prayer. The purpose of the special meeting was to approve the Pastor Nominating Committee’s Church Information Form that will be presented to the Committee on Ministry.  After a brief discussion, Evelyn Pike moved to accept the document as prepared. Motion second and approved.   The meeting was closed with prayer.

September 27, 1994. Session Minutes.  A thank you letter was sent to Alice Meserve, Attorney at Law, for her legal advice regarding the pre-school contract negotiations. 

Pastor Nominating Committee. Suzanne Riley reported the Church Information Form was presented to the Committee on Ministry and was approved with some minor changes.

Old Business. Porch. Laurie Hayes reported that the deck was completed and was awaiting the final inspection from the County Planning Department.

October 25, 1994. Session Minutes.  A wedding will be held in the church December 31, 1994. The bride is Kori Lyn McFarland and the groom is James S. Little. Rev. Van Sant will conduct the service. 

It was decided that the clerk will send a letter to 5 young adult non-attending members, inviting them to Sunday services over the holidays when they might be home from college.

Buildings and Grounds. Arlie reported on the elm trees in the east yard of the manse, how they are disrupting the foundation and roof of the house. Suzanned moved to remove the trees this  winter. Motion second and approved.

Manse Painting. A bid to paint the manse for $750 was accepted. It was decided to paint the shed for an additional $100, and to re-putty the windows on time/material basis.

Pre-School. Penny Vittore has been hired to clean the pre-school rooms. Betty talked to Frank Fox regarding the abuse by the pre-school to church property and the deterioration of the carpet. Possible solutions were discussed.

Rev. Van Sant shared with us Joy of the Lord.  John 15:11. Meeting closed with prayer.

November 15, 1994.  Session Minutes.  Clerk’s Report. Letters were sent to J. Charles Navarro, David Badley, Serena Denny, Gregory Giguiere and Alan Dahm, inviting them to attend services while they are home from college for the holidays.

Pastor Nominating Committee. Suzanne Riley reported the committee is studying and responding to the PIF’s that have been received. They are continuing to look for fresh material. 

Worship Committee. Advent starts November 27th. Suzanne will ask different groups within the church to light the candles each week. Letters of Thanksgiving will be mailed to our Pulpit Supply Ministers and signed by all Session members.

Buildings and Grounds. Arlie reported a new bathroom sink is needed in the manse. He will complete some needed wiring work in the church basement. He is looking for a base cabinet for the manse kitchen.

Old Business. Manse Painting.  Craftsman Painting of Woodland painted the manse for a total of $895.

New Business. Chimes. The chimes are in need of repair. Laurie will contact the company regarding fees and recommendations, and try to get them ready for Christmas.

Laurie recommended painting the outside doors (4) of the church, the church sign and the light above the front doors.They are weathered . The new paint will coordinate with the newly painted manse and the brick of the church. Craftsman Painting and Repair will charge $250. The recommendation was accepted.  Betty suggested we also look into restoring the Welcome to C.C.C. on the east and west ends of town.  Laurie and Arlie will report at the next meeting.
